Skookum in California

Postby Mark D » Sat Apr 20, 2019 9:10 am

Was unloaded yesterday on the tracks that I think it will be operating on. I don't know anything more, if the track is insular or what. Don't know anything about the outfit that unloaded it, if it's the same people who will operate it or not. The one thing I do know is that it's better off in CA than lying on its side in a marsh like terrain.

It went to Niles Canyon as IIRC the owner lives near there.

Thanks for the information. Any idea of the track it will be running on? How many miles, etc. I'll never get out there, but would like to have a vision of what will be going on there.

It's at Niles Canyon at the moment, which is something like 6-7 miles of track. That is just for this summer, however. As best as anyone knows right now, after this season, she will be transported to the owner's Roots of Motive Power Museum in Willits, CA---which has a very small loop of track, but nothing the Skookum can operate on. Anything can change, but Niles Canyon is not expected to be the permanent new home.

Too bad it can't operate there. Is there track to their little circle? Or does it have to go in there by truck?
On the off chance that they are connected perhaps it could get out now and then.
Just random thoughts

Trains says nothing about Skookum's ultimate home, confound them.
Maybe Skookum's owner plans to move the engine from railroad to railroad in the warmer months and keep it at his place in the off season?

Maybe so. If so, that's a good idea. It will operate on other rails for which those operations will generate revenue.
