4014 Derailment Article

Nothing like a million pounds of locomotive to show you deficiencies in your right-of-way.

Having seen things like that with the 261 over the years I'm not surprised. One thing that can cause this would be the sharper curves installed during the many years of diesel power in order to add more storage tracks or other reasons for more trackage in yards.
That's why steam people usually carry a lot of blocking just for that purpose.
I was thinking that they might have a derailment or two or so during this little trip to Utah. Two sets of drivers only multiply the chances of a derailment. Nothing out of the ordinary in these days.
