Why The Spine Line Can Handle Articulateds

Postby SOO2719 » Sun Jul 14, 2019 3:06 pm

Hey all:

I learned recently that the Duluth, Missabe, and Iron Range would lease their Yellowstones out to the Rio Grande (?) during the winter months, and those babies would head for Colorado via the Rock Island Spine Line! So this is why the likes of UP 3985 and, soon, 4014, can traverse that route.

back in those days the RR was well kept up. I bet the 4014 copper rating isnt that high. Bridges are rated by cooper ratings.

Thanks, Tony. I've always wondered how the Yellowstones traveled to the DRGW.
