Sad, but I think it's all because of the COVID 19. They wouldn't get much in the way of return if they did run it. Or, on the other hand, if they did get a big gathering here and there it would exacerbate what we're supposed to be staying from.
On the other hand, will they be running the Northern? I'm guessing not, but who knows? It would get crowds just like the big boy.
Just my thoughts.

The 765 group announced the railroad they normally run trips on will not be operating before October meaning the 765 trips are canceled and of course so is the ferry move over NS. I do not know of any planned moves of 611. With neither the UP engines nor 765 running this year will this be the first year no steam al all runs on the mainline in the US? I have been trying to think of another year when noting turned a wheel on the mainline but have drawn a blank. Does anyone remember a year with no mainline steam prior to this one if that indeed happens?

Looks like all mainline steam will be quiet this year:

(Sigh) That rotten virus...

In connection with this thread 60 years ago today N&W Y 6 class engines 2156 and 2190 ran the second pigeon and first pigeon switcher turns out of Williamson, WV for the last time. Thus ended mainline regular service steam in the US forever. I guess if this is the first year with no mainline steam 59 years is not that bad to have at least one run on the main somewhere.

Since that worthless CEO at Amtrak left and a new guy came in, some of the mainline steam people are 'lobbying' the new guy to let them operate under Amtrak's umbrella. If it does happen, we could see some good days again.
