Here is a video of a train vs. car accident in Centralia, Illinois late last month that demonstrates why you do not drive around crossing gates:

Amazing to relate, the driver was able to walk away from this--but he was ticketed for ignoring a railroad crossing:

You don't want to go around crossing gates because you don't want to die before your time. Those who do so are likely to have a short life span. This is very simple.
